Reactable_polygone

POLYGONE is an interactive musical table project developed with Max/MSP and Processing, based on the core principles of the Reactable.

The reacTIVision tracking system was integrated directly into Max/MSP through the development of reactable_tracker, a custom module designed to analyse Amoeba markers from the camera feed. Object identification, position, rotation, appearance and removal are therefore processed directly inside Max, without relying on a separate tracking application.

Max/MSP acts as the core of the system, handling tracker analysis, samples, sequencers, effects, parameters and audio processing. The data required for the visual layer is then sent via OSC to Processing/P5, which generates the real-time visual feedback projected onto the surface of the table.

Physical objects become controllers used to select sounds, adjust parameters, create connections, control effects and drive sequences. Their position and rotation directly affect their behaviour within the system.

POLYGONE brings video tracking, sound, physical interaction and real-time visualisation into a single architecture, with the aim of developing a new interpretation of the Reactable-style instrument.

Muta_monome norns

MUTA is an electronic music instrument developed for monome norns, built around a multitrack sequencer and a collection of sound engines, processing tools and generative systems.

The project is written in Lua for interface and control logic, with a dedicated audio engine in SuperCollider. It combines synthesis, sample playback, sequencing, envelopes, modulation, effects, arpeggiation and Euclidean sequencing within a single architecture.

MUTA can be used directly on norns, and can also be extended with monome grid and arc for deeper access to sequencing, parameter control and performance functions. The system also supports communication with external hardware through MIDI and monome crow.

Each track includes its own sequencing, probability, dynamics and transformation parameters. Parameters can also be locked at individual steps, allowing sound and effects to evolve within a sequence.

Part of the project focuses on mutation and generative processes, introducing rhythmic, melodic and timbral variations while preserving the underlying structure of the sequence.

MUTA is designed as a self-contained environment combining sequencing, synthesis, sound processing and physical interaction within a single instrument.

MAX/MSP is used as a research and development environment for creating electronic instruments, rhythmic systems and sound synthesis architectures.

Part of the work focuses on rhythm and pattern generation through random and probabilistic processes. Randomness is not treated as an end in itself, but as a way to introduce variation, accidents and evolution within defined musical structures. Sequences can gradually transform while maintaining rhythmic and musical coherence.

These systems are designed for real-time interaction. Interfaces built with Mira and TouchOSC make it possible to control the patches from multiple iPads and to separate the instrument from the computer screen. Sequencing, density, probability, levels, modulation and sound transformation become directly accessible through dedicated touch interfaces.

The work also extends into a modular synthesis system, connected to Max/MSP through Expert Sleepers ES-9 and ES-5 interfaces. This bridge allows audio, CV, gates, clocks and modulation signals to move between the software environment and the modular system, enabling both worlds to interact as a single instrument.

Other areas of research focus on audio synthesis, modulation and the development of generative sound engines, ranging from minimal structures to more autonomous systems capable of producing and transforming their own sonic material.

These patches are approached less as fixed compositions than as open instruments and systems, built around the relationship between structure, randomness, control, the interaction between software and hardware, and the transformation of sound.
